The special drawing of the mahogany is usually referred to by the French word “pommele = apple-shaped” – hence Moabi Pommele. It comes from a deformity in the tree structure, which shows a series of small nodes. However, these nodes are not really present, but the result of light reflections on the circularly arranged fibers. The mahogany pommele veneer is used in the production of high-quality furniture, for musical instruments and in shipbuilding.
