The Madagascar rosewood, which originates mainly from Africa, has been a highly valued fine wood for centuries and was imported early because of its special colouring. Like all rosewood species, it has an even basic coloration with dark black-brown stripes. The Madagascar rosewood is of great importance in the construction of musical instruments, where it is used for marimbas, xylophones, guitars and recorders because of its density, hardness and sound properties. The veneer is used in high-quality interior design, in the production of furniture and panelling.
