The red cedar, better known as Western red cedar belongs to the cypress family and originates from North America. Because of its aromatic wood, it is called “cedar”, although it does not belong to the cedar genus Cedrus. The Western red cedar has similar characteristics to the real cedar, but is much lighter and softer and is therefore one of the lightest conifers. In interior design, the red cedar is mainly used for wall and ceiling cladding because of its beauty, good insulation, low weight and durability. As veneer, it is used in the manufacture of doors and stairs.
