The wood, usually referred to as sapele, comes from the same botanical family as the classic American mahogany and largely corresponds to this species in its essential characteristics, hence it is also referred to as Sapelli Mahogany. In the group of mahogany woods, the sapele stands out due to its special structure and is often used for decorative purposes. The veneer of sapele is used in the manufacture of furniture, doors and panelling.
