The ziricote belongs to the family of Fabaceae and originates from Central America. It can reach a growth height of up to 30 m and a trunk diameter of 1 m. The heartwood is grey-brown, matt glossy and is crossed at a distance of about 5 to 10 mm from 1 mm wide, dark to olive-brown tangential stripes, which produce the distinctive fladering. Because of its decorative pattern, the wood is mainly used in the art joinery and as a veneer for interior design, for panelling and furniture.
